Our
mission and
vision
are derived from
the Centre’s motto found in James 1: 27: Religion that God our father accepts as
pure and faultless is this; to look after orphans and widows in their
distress’. Specifically, we aim at:
1. supporting all the orphaned children at By Grace Disabled and Orphans
Centre by meeting their physical and spiritual needs.
2. sensitizing others to be partakers of this noble task by providing them
with an opportunity to bless the orphans as God enables them.
The Purpose of the Centre
Against this
background, the Centre, under the directorship of Salome Muturi, has seen the
need to reach out to more disadvantaged, disabled children and rehabilitate
them so as to give them a sense of hope and support for their future.
Towards this
end, the Centre takes care of physically, socially, economically, emotionally
and spiritually challenged orphans; mainly those affected by HIV/AIDS. The
Centre is dedicated to providing free education, accommodation, food, clothing,
good health, individual skills enhancement, and spiritual support to the
children. The Centre also counsels these traumatized children, most of whom have
lost their parents to HIV/AIDS.
The management
hopes to equip the children to be responsible citizens once they leave the
center. This will be done through vocational
training, e.g. carpentry, masonry, secretarial and
computer skills, hairdressing, livestock farming, poultry, etc. This dream will
only be realized when the center acquires its own land. At the moment, the
children are accommodated in a rented flat, which also doubles up as classrooms
and dormitories for the 300 children, 130 of whom are full time boarders.
Our aim also is
to transform these children into responsible adults who can provide for
themselves. This can only be realized if certain skills and expertise are
instilled in these children.
The Centre also
plans to initiate projects that can generate income. This will go a long way in
making the Centre self-sustaining.
